So I've taken the plunge and will be joining the Cult of Mac fairly soon. I've ordered a MacBook Core 2 Duo, which I've been eyeing for quite some time! It's a pretty sweet machine and I'm really looking forward to getting it soon. I've been a PC user for most of my computing life so hopefully it will not be too hard to adjust to a new platform. To help me prepare, I've been looking up websites and tutorials that will help me with this process, here's a few:
Lately, I haven't written too much about music so here are a few tracks from a group that is a current favourite of mine - The Knife. Hailing from Sweden, they are a brother and sister electronic indie music duo. Perhaps not too popular in North America but their album, Silent Shout, was named the best album of 2006 by Pitchfork Media.
Here are a few interesting videos from Silent Shout:
WE SHARE OUR MOTHERS' HEALTH
The following song is not from Silent Shout but I thought I would add it anyways because I like it :) I can listen to it over and over and not get bored of it
HEARTBEATS (from the album, Deep Cuts, 2003)
Fellow Swede José González did a cover of Heartbeats, which is a lot more mellow but still very good. It was used in a Sony BRAVIA commercial:
Ever notice the names of the "people" who send you email to inform you that you've won a million dollars or to entice you to shed those unwanted pounds with some magic pills? Deirbhile Ritter, Kveta Ash, Lucine Hemminger, Ingaberg Fredelia, Ibtisam Hasegawa, Rigoberto Hurst, Eulalie Thoma...just to name a few who have dropped by my inbox these past few days. I'm not sure how these names were generated but they are certainly gems.
TORONTO TRANSIT MAP Check out this useful site that combines Google Maps with GTA public transit lines (e.g. bus, subway, streetcar, etc). As stated in his blog, this was put together by Ian Stevens, a local software developer. I'm glad to see that this site was created, it's ten times better than what is currently offered on the TTC's website (i.e. not much with regards to route maps). Hopefully, this will help spur the TTC into creating something like Journey Planner in Helsinki or London.
